September Event: Cyber safety evening in Wānaka

Creating Safer Digital Spaces for Our Tamariki

Technology is a big part of how our children learn, communicate and connect. But as the digital world continues to change, understanding how to navigate it safely is becoming increasingly important for parents and families.

That’s why Focus Technology Group is proud to support Our Kids Online, a parents-only cyber safety evening taking place in Wānaka on Tuesday, 8 September 2026.

Hosted at Take Kārara School Hall, the evening will feature filmmaker, author and speaker Rob Cope, producer of the documentary Our Kids Online.

Helping parents understand the digital world

The online environment our children are growing up in looks very different from the one many parents experienced themselves.

During the evening, Rob will explore some of the challenges families are facing today, including cyberbullying, social media, gaming, online predators, inappropriate online content and the rapidly changing world of artificial intelligence.

The session will also focus on practical steps parents can take at home.

Topics will include creating healthier boundaries around devices, making smartphones safer, using filters, having difficult conversations with children and understanding some of the emerging risks associated with AI, including deepfakes, voice cloning and companion bots.

The goal isn’t to create fear around technology. It’s about giving parents greater awareness and practical tools to help their families use technology more safely.
